On a Block – Scrapbook Layout for Get It Scrapped

Hi Everyone,

Well school holidays, a weekend workshop, a couple of trips away, a couple of family birthdays and some house reorganising have kept me busy the last few weeks.  Things are settling down now although the school holidays still go for another week.

Today I am sharing a layout made for Get It Scrapped for their article about using the scrapbook design principle of ‘On a Block’.  If you want more information and some more layout ideas check out the blog post here.

For my layout I decided to scrapbook about my middle son when he was 3 months old.  Unfortunately I wasn’t as diligent at writing things down as I wish I had been but I was still able to remember a bit about what he was doing at 3 months.  I really like the Echo Park Bundle of Joy papers as there are some lovely soft aquas, greens and blues.

I decided to use the white background and the light blue paper to keep the layout soft.  Then I layered the brighter coloured papers and embellishments around the photo to make it the main focal point of the page.  I chose embellishments to coordinate with colours in my photograph.  The toy in the photo is a giraffe and my son’s special teddy was a Lion so the animal embellishments worked both in colour but also to support the story of the page.

I made sure that I had some elements breaking the borders and used dimensional embellishments to keep my layout interesting.  The scalloped piece and the strips of paper on the opposite diagonal frame the block and keep the attention on my photo.  The stitching on the layout adds subtle texture and interest.

Thanks for stopping by,
